Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C suddenly stops, electronic leak detector, 134a freon

Question
After 12 years of ice cold air, the AC in my 92 Buice Roadmaster has stopped, it usually works great, but the past summer there was nothing. I don't even hear it kick in or out like it used to. I have a 5.7 V8, and it has automatic Climate control. Used R12 refigerant. If it needs to be recharged, will I have to change to R13? The AC has never been repaired before, it is all original equipment.

Answer
If the system has developed a leak in one of the hoses or major components, It will take an electronic LEAK DETECTOR to easily find the cause of your leak.

Yes, You should have your system converted over to the R-134a freon.

This conversion is NOT as easily done as they tell you on the KITS that you can buy. These KITS are meant for use on a FULLY FUNCTIONAL A/C system ONLY.

Since yours is NOT FULLY FUNCTIONAL do NOT attempt to install this KIT until you find and resolve the leak by a professional A/C technician.
