I have a 1985 5.0 Camaro w/ TPI system. It will not idle when cold and starts real hard when its cold. I mean I have to run the starter about 7 to 10 seconds before it starts. But it always starts.

Listen at the gas cap opening as you have someone turn the ignition key to the ON position ONLY. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.
You should hear the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank run for 2 seconds and then stop. Does it ?.
10/22/04....The fuel pump is very noisy, you can hear it loud and clear from inside the vehicle. With the key in the ON position the pump runs and runs until you turn the key to Off.

AnswerThe pump should ONLY run for 2 seconds and then STOP when the ignition is in the ON position and the engine is NOT running.
Locate the fuel pump relay and replace it.
You may have to replace the fuel pump also, But let's start with the relay FIRST.
Once you replace the relay retest it and let me know.
