Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C NOT WORKING PROPERLY, dodge ram 1500, dial up connection

I HAVE A 99' DODGE RAM 1500 5.9L, AND MY A/C ONLY BLOWS COLD WHEN IT WANTS TO. WHEN I FIRST TURN THE A/C ON IT WILL BLOW COLD, BUT ONLY ON HIGH AND ONLY UNTIL I DECELERATE. WHEN I TOUCH THE BRAKES I HEAR A THUMP INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE BLEND DOOR HAS CLOSED AND THEN THE A/C BLOWS HOT AIR(THE A/C COMPRESSOR CONTINUES TO WORK).YOU CAN TURN THE A/C OFF AND WAIT A MINUTE AND WHEN YOU TURN IT ON AGAIN IT WILL WORK UNTIL YOU BRAKE AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE SUMMER. THIS SEEMS TO BE LINKED TO THE TEMP ADJUSTMENT BECAUSE EVEN WHEN THE A/C IS BLOWING COLD YOU CANT ADJUST THE TEMP, YOU CAN EITHER HAVE HOT OR COLD BUT NOTHING IN BETWEEN.I WAS TOLD BY A FRIEND THAT OWNED A 97 RAM THAT IT WAS A VACCUM PROBLEM BECAUSE HIS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE A/C ONLY WORKING OCCASIONALY (HE TOOK HIS TO A DEALER $875), HOWEVER I CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE IT AND HAVE IT FIXED. WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM MYSELF?

Answer
This is NOT an easy fix to do. In most cases you have to practically remove the complete dash from the vehicle in order to access the heater and A/C ducts in order to repair or replace the blend door and or blend door cable of which has either broke or the blend door arm has broken off from the blend door.

I do NOT recommend trying to do this extensive complex dash removal as you will get into more trouble than you can imagine.

I have done 5 or 6 of these and it is NO PICNIC and takes several hours to do it.

You are going to have to BITE THE BULLET and have it done by someone who has performed this type of repair.

This vehicle is full of electronic components and ONE mistake can cost you a BUNDLE.
