Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: auto air conditioner, auto air conditioner, chrysler center

Question
Dear Autohelp, I have a 1989 Dodge Aires with 92,000 miles ... I take it to my Chrysler center for upkeep and repairs. A week ago, suddenly,at starting the motor to head home, my air conditioner blew warm air...I tried pushing "off" button... and then turning it on again... to no avail. I called the service center and had them check it, but when I went in, the air was working well. So they couldn't duplicate the problem... they could find nothing wrong and told me it could be the relay... I chose to replace the relay....they found carbon build-up and worn points (if I understood them correctly, I'm a female with little knowledge of cars). Today, a week later it just did it again...
Now, here is the odd part.... after I got home and parked my car and turned the air on again it worked perfectly... BOTH TIMES... a week ago and today...
also, when my brother went to check under the hood a week ago, before I went to the Chrysler dealer, he told me to "turn it on"... I did... he said "turn it on"... I said it is on... but he showed me that the clutch wasn't engaged... so I turned it off and then on again and the clutch did engage that time... Do you have any idea what the problem could be?
I like your "instructions"... I also am retired and I know what you mean about retirement money.
Thank you  for your time.

Answer
Hi Lucy, If it is OK to address you as Lucy,?,

OK, Intermittent problems never occur when the vehicle is taken into a repair facility. The vehicles must has a sixth sense in knowing where their going so jsut to annoy you and the repair facility that work PERFECTLY all the time they are at the repair facility.

But as soon as you take it home, It starts acting up again and this vicious cycle keeps happening and the repair facility starts to think that your not playing with a FULL DECK.

Anyway, Without actually having physical access to the vehicle and based upon experience I would have to asy that you most likely have a problem with the LOW PRESSURE and or HIGH PRESSURE A/C sensors on the refrigerant lines of the A/C system, If applicable to your type of vehicle, As Since I can't see the vehicle and remember every year and make of vehicle, I would suspect that the LOW PRESSURE SWITCH is the cause.

It has also been my experience that when a problem occurs days or weeks AFTER a repair of anykind was performed on the vehicle the possibility exists that during the reapir, an electrical connector may have been knocked loose and now after driving the vehicle for some time this electrical connector has been disconnected due to the vibration of the engine while driving it.

Look around the area of where previous work was performed and see if any wires look out of place.

Let me know.
