Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Heater Core symptoms?, mercury grand marquis, e mail address

Question
Hi! I have an '87 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 5.0 V-8. When cruising along at normal highway sppeds, if I give it more power it temporarily blows warm air thru the A/C ducts. Also, sometimes it blows a vapor thru the ducts (cold air vapor)that smells somewhat like anti-freeze. I have replaced all the hoses within the past 10 days. Any ideas?? Thanks, Craig

Answer
In most cases when you can smell engine coolant in the passengers compartment and when using the defrost setting you start to develop condensation on the inside of the windshield this is a classic case of a heater core leak of which requires replacement.
