P.S. before it froze completly, it use to intermitenly{spelling]change from front to defrost on its own.

You stated "P.S. before it froze completly,".  Would you please elaborate in more detail as to this statement ?.

I also need to know the complete repair history of the vehicle of any work any where what-so-ever that was performed on the vehicle.

autohelp Thanks for the reply. the a/c before this happened would simply change from blowing out of the front panel vents to its current position of blowing out of the defrost and floor vents and then after a short period it would change back on its own. I just figered that gm did that to get an all around cool in the car. now I'm thinking that it was a sign of things to come. the van has not had any major problems. We had a trany cooler installed becouse we pull a small trailer, and had the alternator and battery replaced about six months ago. It has about 106000 miles on it.

Answer
This is a classic example of a loss of vacuum to the A/C-Heater control module.

This loss of vacuum is caused by either a loose, broken and of soft to the touch vacuum line that has become SOFT over the years and when a heavy vacuum demand is fed thru this weak vacuum line it collapses as if you pniched it together with your fingers.

You need to inspect all of the vacuum lines within the engine compartment.

If I am not mistaken there is a bundle of vacuum lines that run between the battery and the front fender and I have seen numerous cases of where battery acid had leaked onto this bundle of vacuum lines and eventaully this acid over a period of several months finally ate thru the vacuum lines thus a loss of vacuum to the A/C controls.

Also crawl under the vehicle and look upwards towards the battery and you will see a large ROUND vacuum tank with vacuum lines attached to it. You will most likely find loose, Broken and or corroded thru vacuum lines at or near the vacuum tank.
