Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: R12 vs ??, 134a freon, e mail address

Question
I have a 69 Pont GP that I'm in the process of restoring. It was sitting for 10+ years. When I pressed the shrader valve in, it hissed. The engine is fine but I haven't put a belt on the AC yet.

Q#1 Should I convert to some other refrigerant and if so what? I live in the desert and good AC is a must.

Q#2 What parts of the AC do you recommend be replaced without a doubt?

Q#3 Is R12 getting less expensive due to junk cars suplying the market or will it just keep going up in price.

Thank you in advance,

Answer

NOTE: You shuld first flush out the:

1. Evaporator.

2. Condensor.

3. A/C compressor.

4. All the refrigerant lines.

5. Receiver.

6. expansion valve.

In other words flush out the entire system using the proper flushing agent and I would do it at least 2 or 3 times to make sure that you flush out all of the debris as well as the old R12 refrigerant and the old R-12 refrigerant oil.

I would recommend that you replace:

1. the receiver mounted on or near the condensor.

2. replace the expansion valve.

3. Convert to the new R-134a freon and refrigerant system.

Make sure that you reinstall the correct amount of refrigerant oil and refrigerant forr your year and make vehicle.
