AnswerHi Roy....There are actually 2 standard recommended procedures for sectioning in a frame rail on a unibody vehicle. I will list them below. The best advice I can give you, is to contact Hyundai directly, and ask them their recommended procedures, locations, etc. for the sectioning for your particular vehicle. The reason being, is that as technology has changed rapidly over the past few years, many vehicle manufacturers have introduced their own repair procedures.
That being said, here are the 2 standard sectioning recommendations:
A butt joint with a sleeve: The original frame rail and the replacement frame rail will be connected end to end, with a sleeve/insert installed inside. The sleeve should extend a minimum of 2 inches inside both frame rails and be plug welded into place. The end to end butt joint, will need to be welded up solidly and completely.
An overlap joint without an insert: This is where one frame rail is installed overtop or capped over the other. In this case, the overlap will serve as the insert. The same will apply. Plug weld the overlap, and completely weld the joint.
Just as a note, the recommended type of welder, is only a Mig. The recommended wire is ES70-6. The recommended wire size is .023". The recommended gas is C25.
