Auto body repair & detailing: Paint blending

Question
Hello

How can I blend the original paint on my 2005 Taurus with some same color Dupli-Color spray-on paint?

         Thanks, jim

Answer
Hi Jim!....I checked out the Dupli-Color website, and found out that their Perfect Match System is a lacquer based system, and that they also have a clear coat for this system as well. That being said, if you need to blend into an adjacent panel, (for example, refinishing 2 doors, painting the first, and blending into the second), I would approach it this way: Hold the paint spray can 8 to 10 inches away, and parallel to the both panels. Start by spraying the panel that requires paint, covering it as needed. Once you are satisfied with the coverage, (and to get an even spray/color pattern), start spraying the first panel again as usual, only this time, going a few inches past and into the adjacent panel, still parallel, but arcing outwards as you get past the first few parallel inches. Make another 1 or 2 passes the same way, and by going a few inches further past the last stoppage. By this point, you should be able to determine, how the color transformation/blend is going, and whether you need any more passes. The last step, is to Clear Coat. Spray this at the same 8 to 10 inch distance, and parallel only, covering both panels completely. A minimum of 2 coats of clear is recommended.....Please remember, that these are the basic guidelines for a blend. Experience, temperature, humidity, product quality, equipment, technique, etc., all are contributing factors as to how any refinish job will turn out...Hope I have answered your question....If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to write me back....Best of luck with your project!....Thanks....Dave
