Auto body repair & detailing: Bed Bolts, bed bolts, bolt head

Question
2002 F150 SuperCab. 4.6 engine. Short bed. I am trying to remove the bed of the truck. I have removed 4 of the six bed bolts. The bolts with spin but will not unscrew. One is in the front area near the cab. The other is the middle.
Any suggestions to remove the bolts?
John

Answer
Hi John!....In a case such as this, what I do, as this has also happened to me quite a few times, is to take a die grinder or cut-off grinder, (one with a guard on it if possible), and install a 1/32 inch thick, 3 inch diameter cut-off wheel. Once this is done, simple cut the head of the bolt into a square as close to the Torx slot as possible. Meaning, 1 left and right vertical cut, and 1 top and bottom horizontal cut. This will get rid of the excess bolt head, resulting in you being able to lift the box over top of the remainder of the bolt head. You will obviously need to replace the cut bolts and J-Clips as needed. These are available from any Ford Dealer. Hope this helps you out...If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to drop me another line....Thanks....Dave
