Auto body repair & detailing: Rack & Pinion Bolt Fell Out, service bulletins, ford dealership

Question
Mechanic told me not to pay 1100.00 for used subframe at his AAA certified shop. That a body shop/welder could repair worn hole that allowed bolt to fall out. Where do I go to get my SAFETY issue and work done in LA County area? THANKS.

Answer
Hi Erma!....My personal preference as to where to get work done, is at the Dealership....So if your vehicle is a Ford, my choice would be at a Ford Dealership....The reason being, is that they have the most knowledge as to that specific make, model, etc., and sometimes there are service bulletins pertaining to certain vehicles, which they can inform you about if it applies....In your case, as I am sure you know, a worn hole on a subframe, is not normal...There may be a bulletin out on this issue, possibly....If not, they should be able to repair it just the same....( According to your Mechanic )....Hopefully, your Dealership has a Body Shop....If they don't, you can ask them where they take their warranty claims to get repaired, as most Dealerships that do not have a Body Shop, have a contract with a Qualified independent Body Shop....You can also give your insurance company a call, and ask them who they recommend....Hope I have helped you out....Thanks....Dave
