Auto body repair & detailing: heat shields, heat shields, safety sake

How important are heat shield car; what are the purpose of heat shields?   My Mazda 2003 had them when I bought it, and they perm. removed them last week since they were no longer working and they were rattling.  Thanks

Hi Dave and Patty!....Heat shields are installed to protect the adjacent and surrounding areas from possible damage from the heat developed from the engine and exhaust system....They are strategically placed to protect wiring, plastic components, combustible materials, and especially electronic components....Without these in place, there is the possibility of damage being done to any, or all of the above mentioned....For safety sake, as fire damage, although remote, is still a possibility, I would recommend that you have these re-installed....Drop me a line if you have any further questions, or concerns....Thanks....Dave
