Auto body repair & detailing: Rear fender removel on 1995 GMC dually, rear fenders, rear fender

Question
Hi Dave,

I've got a 1995 GMC ext cab dually.
It's needs some TLC,I'm starting to get paint bubbling around the rear fenders and want to repair and paint the damaged areas.
My question is how do I go about removing the rear fenders so I can work on the rusty areas of the back box.
I see there are two sets of bolts holding on the fender, not sure which set to remove..inner or the outer set?
What would be easier?

Thanks Bob.

Answer
Hi Bob!...Sorry it took me this long to get back to you..I am in the process of moving...I have only changed 1 of these dually fenders on a GMC, and that was a few years ago...I have worked at a Chrysler/Dodge for the past 20 years, and have changed quite a few of these, and if memory serves correctly, they are not that different...As I am sure you know, you will need to first remove the splash shield...From there, the wiring to the marker lights should be accessable...Proceed to remove that...From there, from the outside of the box side, there should be 3 rows of bolts...Horizontal on the top, and 2 vertical on the front and rear...These should all be 10MM heads...Initially, remove only these...If the fender does not come loose, then you will have to remove the inner set...Sorry I can not be more specific...Hope this does help you out though...If not, please drop me a line again, and I will give my GMC contacts a call, and see what advice they can pass along...Thanks...Dave
