Auto body repair & detailing: Hood hinge adjusting, oldsmobile delta 88, position level

I have a 1966 Oldsmobile Delta 88.  About 7 years ago, the hood on its own became raised up in the back (above the hood hinges) by about 3/4".  I had the hood hinges replaced recently with new (not used) hood hinges.  The hood is still 3/4" raised up, and the corner Mechanic isn't sure it can be adjusted lower.  I can push down on the back of the hood and it will now hold in the down position (level with surrounding body).  Any suggestions for adjusting it so it stays lower?  The alignment of the hood looks correctly spaced, and the hood is now more rigidly in place than with the older hood hinges.

Hi Carl!...From your description that the hood became raised up on it's own, makes me think that the springs on the original hinges became weak....Especially when you mentioned that you could push down on the hood, even with the new hinges installed, and the hood will then align correctly....So that also makes me believe that the new hood hinge springs are not strong enough as well....What you can do, is to try and get another set of hinges, if where you bought them from will provide warranty...Also, if they will not provide warranty, what you can also do, is to elongate the holes on the hinge vertically....The hole most rearward, closest to the windshield, is the one that needs to be dropped the most....That way, you should be able to get the hood to drop down to align properly, without having to push on it....I think I talked to you a while ago in regards to one other question you had....Hope that I have helped you out on both concerns...Please write me back if you have any more questions....Nice to hear from you again.....Dave
