Auto body repair & detailing: auto body metal type, welding torch, toyota camry

Question
What type of metal is the 1994 toyota camry and what material is the bumper, for painting and detailing purposes.

Answer
Well aside from your hatch or deck lid, hood, fenders, door skins which are of a good tensile steel
and if my memory serves me correctly. Most if not all of the sub structure and unibody and
components are of HSLA steel,Or High Strength Low Alloy . This makes it sensitive to High heat
like a welding torch and such. I wouldn't advise doing any welding with a torch or the use of any
brass.
As for the bumpers,I believe they have been made of a polyurethane since the early 1980's  ,don't know If I spelled that right. It's a very durable flexible plastic. You may consider painting them separately with a
flex agent additive, this will help keep the finish from cracking or peeling off In the event you
happen to bump into something.A little good knowledge for you to have even if your not painting
and just detailing.A good number of detailers I've known do eventually pursue that art as well.
