Auto body repair & detailing: Mechanical Lien, lien company, customer sign

Question
Dear Sir. My husband and I are new to the paint and body business. We had a customer sign off on a work order for work to be done on his vehicle. We did the work he has not come to pay for and pick up his car. It has been 3 months. I have called and sent a letter. Is there a way I can file a lien against the car, can I sell it, was I supposed to send the letter certified, and lastly how much notice do I have to give him since it has already been 3 months? Thank you for all your help.

Answer
I unfortunately know exactly what spot you are in. Is their an insurance company involved ?
If there is you can contact  the claims manager and ask him to contact the person if the person was his insured. If the claimant's insurance was used then they probably will not help you.

First find out if the payment was made and try to get a copy of the check if if  was cashed.

If the owner was paying for repairs out oh his pocket then you can send him a certified letter stating your intent to sell the vehicle and take him to claims court.File with a lien company after the allotted time.
