Auto body repair & detailing: 2000 Ford F-150 Floor Pan Repair, floor pan repair, ford f 150

Hello,

I own a 2000 Ford F-150 that failed inspection due to a defective floor pan. It turns out the used car dealership or previous owner repaired the floor with fiberglass (purchased last year in December and passed an in house inspection at the dealership.)

Does this material even meet the manufacturer's specifications? The mechanic said that it was a problem because it would not continue to support the weight of the occupants inside of the vehicle and the repairs would cost around $500-600. There is also some rust spots and I am just trying to understand if the dealership took advantage or me or if the fiberglass floor pan was a quick fix and eventually it would need to be replaced.

I live in NH.

Lisa, you bought an 8 year old van from a car salesman- you should have taken it to an off site mechanic and had an inspection done. Never, ever, EVER take the word of the dealer trying to sell the vehicle. Yes, the fiberglass was a quick fix. as far as rust is concerned- you live in a rust belt state, and bought an 8 year old, out of warranty van style that is notorious for rusting. I gotta tell you, Lisa, if you were taken advantage of, it was because you failed to educate yourself about the van you were buying. Salesmen live for opportunities like that. Caveat emptor- may the buyer beware. Bill
