Auto body repair & detailing: Lead seam, lead removal, quarter panel replacement

Question
I have a 1969 Camaro Coupe.  I am replacing the full rear quarter.  On the sale panel there is a lead seam where it attaches to the roof.  How do I remove the lead and can I weld the seam instead of using lead to my replacement panel.

Answer
Hi Brian,

You can grind the lead seam off. I would use 3M's roloc grinding discs (http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_3m_green_corps.cfm) and a die grinder to do the job. Make sure you use a good quality respirator so you don't breathe the lead dust. (http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_half_facepiece.cfm)

You can weld the seam but you will also have to use some type of filler. I recommend using a product called Duraglas.(http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_usc_24035.cfm) Good luck and I hope this helps out.
