Auto body repair & detailing: primer overspray, overspray

Question
Hi, I Have a red mustang that had some minor work done, thanks to my wife. When I received the car back there were little white spots on the paint. I asked the person that did the work and he said that it was impossible. He said they would wipe righ off with laquer thiner. He said he used a arcrylic primer. It is all over the car including the windows and mirrors, and trim. I can get it off of the paint with rubbing compound, but I can not get it off the other parts of the car. Is this guy telling me the truth? He said it must be road paint. I took it to two other body shops and they said that it does not come off that easly. any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,

It does sound like it may be primer overspray. It could be that the painter may have had your car in the same building where he was working on someone else's vehicle. Nevertheless, what happened is not what is important. Fixing the car is. Lacquer Thinner typically evaporates too fast and doesn't really do a good job cleaning overspray off. The best product I have found for removing overspray is these overspray wipes:

Be forewarned if you use these wipes you must neutralize the area where it was applied after you've finished or it will remove the finish all the way to the metal. This product works fabulous if used with caution. There are also other types of over-spray removal products on the market that will also but not as well. I hope this helps.
