Auto body repair & detailing: 2001 Malibu, crank handle, retainers

Hi- The other morning was terribly cold. I tried putting the window down- it would not work- I tried a bit harder- the window still wouldn't go down- but the crank handle makes a terrible clicking noise. I was told that I just popped the handle off the spinner and it needs to be reset. Is this something that I can do myself? And if I can- is it expensive and is it hard?  Thanks so much

Hi Alli,

You would probably have to take off the door panel to access the inside of the door which can be a bit tricky. It's hard to get the panel off without breaking the retainers that hold the door on. I believe if I were you I would take it to one of your local body shops and just see what it would cost to fix it. They do that type of repair on almost a daily basis. I wouldn't think it would be that costly of a repair. Besides most shops will give you an estimate before they work on it. I hope this might help.
