Auto body repair & detailing: 2000 Ford XLT Extended Cab, auto parts stores, torx bit

Question
QUESTION: The doors on the passenger side when closed are not aligned. I can hear wind coming in and can see that the doors are not flush when shut.  When looking at the doors from the outside, I can see light at the seem. How can I adjust the doors?

ANSWER: It takes a torx bit to adjust the striker pin on your truck. You can buy it at most auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Loosen the striker a little, keep moving it until the door opens and closes good and it doesn't leak.
Most body shops will also adjust it cheap or free. I do not charge for those little repairs, it's good for business.

QUESTION: I did the adjustment with the torx bit but there is still a gap at the top where the large door meets the small door. It seems that the large door does not come close enough to the roof when it is shut. If you look at the door from the back of the truck the seem of the large door sticks out about one quarter to one half an inch at the top quarter of the door. Is there any way to bring the door closer to the seem by adjusting the hinges?

Answer
If your body lines are good from the bottom to the middle then the top of the door is tweaked out a bit. Take a small block of wood and place it on the striker to the door at the latch. Push on the top of the door to bend it in slightly. You may have to take another block of wood, rap it in a cloth, place it at the top of the door and tap with a small mall. Work it little at a time being careful not to bend it in to far. Doors will get tweaked from slamming shut. Slamming will tear up the latch and hinges too. When ever a door does not open like it should, something is wearing and/or tweaking.
