Auto body repair & detailing: Changing back tail lights, 10mm nuts, plastic retainers

Question
I have a 2007 honda accord i just bought some back tail lights  altezzas for it, but I don't know how to remove the old tail lights.

Answer
hi Carmen,
the tail lites are bolted on the car probably with 8mm or 10mm nuts. what you have to do is get to the back of the t/l's to remove these nuts. however, there is some interior trim that must be removed in order to access this area. i'm going to assume you have a 4 door with a trunk lid. i don't know exactly how the honda is but most japanese cars are similar.
open the trunk and look at the area that is behind the t/l. look closely and see where it is attached to the car. you are looking for screw heads (usually black phillips head) and /or the heads of plastic retainers (@ 1/2 inch or so and usually round. they may be 2 piece plastic ones where the bottom piece will have a hole in the center and the other piece goes in that hole spreading the clip larger so it stays on the car. at any rate you must remove whatever retainers are there to remove the trim. look good because 1 or 2 may be hidden. if the retainers are of the 2 piece variety you must remove the center piece in order to remove
the retainer. a pocket screwdriver may be handy to do this, or go to an autoparts store and buy an 'upolstery clip remover' (should be less than 10 dollars). this will help to pry these clips out easier. dont be in a rush, take your time and dont force anything because when all the clips are removed the interior should come off easily. if you're having problems, may i suggest you drive to your local autobody shop and tell them what you are trying to do and they should be able to help you with advice at no charge. tell them you just want to get the interior trim off and you want to change the t/l's yourself. i've helped many customers in the past with things like this over and over again. you may want to tip the guy a couple of dollars if he helps you.
at any rate it sounds a lot more complicated than it really is, take a good look at it and good luck.

i hope this helped
