Auto body repair & detailing: sprung door hinge, door hinge, door latch

Question
The wind caught my door and blew it back, now it is out of line and you can here wind coming in when I'm driving. Is this a easy adjustment or a big repair? I'd just like to know  a little something about it before I take it to the body shop?

Answer
Hi Jill! Generally what happens is the lower hinge shortens itself. You need to stretch it back to its original shape. The door will drop and will be harder to close. You can purchase a hinge bender from your local autobody supply store. This will set you back about 60 bucks. There will be a bar with a sliding loop on it. Close the door as far as possible, install the loop into the door latch, and set the bar on the door striker. Gently lift up . You might have to try this a few times to get the correct adjustment. Thanks!
