Auto body repair & detailing: 91 Buick Skylark repairs, buick skylark, gm dealer

Question
I just recently bought this car from a friend, and the only problem with it I've found so far is that when you go to roll the Window down, it makes this annoying clicking sound and the window doesn't move, but when you roll the window up, theres no clicks and the lever wont budge, so its working for rolling up but not down.  Would this type of problem be self-repairable or would I need to take it to a pro?

Answer
Sounds like you've got a bad window regulator. You can replace it yourself if you've got a decent set of tools. It should be nuts & bolts. Call your local GM dealer and see if they've got the window regulator in stock and how much it costs. Prices vary on parts like that. It could be a $30 part or a $200 part. If it's too expensive call some local salvage yards and see if they have any available. If you have any "U-Pull-It" type yards in your area you can go look and see if they have one. That would be the cheapest way to go and you could test it out in the car before you remove it. Anyway, once you've got the new part you'll need to remove the interior trim panel and all the bolts holding the window regulator in should be accessible at that point. You should be able to remove the bolts, remove any hardware attaching the regulator to the glass and then pull the regulator out. If you've never done anything like this it may be pretty challenging, but it's not rocket science, so with patience you should be able to do it. If you're not able or willing to do it yourself, you should be able to get a body shop to install it for you for somewhere between $40 & $80. Call around and tell them what you need and make sure that you tell them that you already have the part. If you haven't already sourced the part you can let them know that you'll need the part as well and I'm sure they'll be happy to order one for you. I hope this helps.
