Auto body repair & detailing: fixing plastic bumper, mitsubishi eclipse, paint supply

Question
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse, ran over something that caught the rear bumper creating a split from the bottom about 6 inches long creating a "flap" hanging there.car has about 160K miles on it so repair doesnt need to be perfect. What type of plastic is the bumper made of and what product works best to hold it together?? I tried some epoxy with a plastic "backer" strip but it didnt hold long. Thanks Scott

Answer
There are several manufacturers making bumper repair epoxy.I have found Norton and 3M to be the best. They are available at an auto paint supply store. As for the specific type of plastic you have I am not sure.Or if you are not real particular about looks you could cut a metal patch for the inside and pop rivet it in place and touch up the rivets. This would be a lot cheaper.
