Auto body repair & detailing: new paint job for brand-new car?, paint warranty, factory paint

Question
Hello Mr Forster -

I expect this is an unusual question, but here goes: have you ever seen someone buy a new car (factory-fresh) and then bring it in for a new coat of paint?  I have been frustrated by the limited colors available on new cars today; the softer shades of blue, green and aqua are notably missing.  Just wondering if an auto paint shop would or could accomodate this request.

Thank you -  Mark

Answer
Hello Mark! First, you will void the paint warranty, which is at least a few years. No.2, it's really hard to beat the quality of the paint that the factory applies. I've never seen anything that is as durable as the factory paint. I'm sure that someone would be more than happy to paint a car a different color for you, but it's prohibitively expensive. Remenber, it will need all the door jambs painted, the belly of the trunk lid = jambs, and the hood belly and jambs. this could easily run 2-3 thousand dollars for a high quality job. Think it over carefully before proceeding. Bill
