Auto body repair & detailing: Collision Rerepair, engine oil pressure, engine failure

Question
I recently hit another car and mine went into the body shop and was repaired, when I took the vehicle, the engine oil pressure light came on and the motor seized. The car had to be towed the 200ft back to the body shop and later towed to the dealer. The dealership says the motor is toast. Will the motor be added on to the original estimate or will the car have a new estimate?

Answer
Given the distance you drove, I would say that if the engine failure is found to be related to the collision the additional repairs should be added to the original claim. Was there a hole in the oil pan or did the shop not add oil after repairs? These questions will have to be answered to determine liability. The engine will have to be torn down to find out and if it is not accident related then the ins. co. will hold you responsible for any costs incurred in the teardown. If the shop denies liability then you might need a lawyer.Let`s hope it does not get that far.Good luck.
