Answer
Happy to help.
First of all you need to really vacuum the capets well.  Use a strong shop vac.  Then get a terry cloth towel to scrub with.  Spray on some good carpet cleaner (stay away from stuff that foams and is soapy) from an auto parts store.  My favorite is on my website www.jenesennet.wwdb.biz and search for Carpet & Upholstery Shampoo/Cleaner .  Mist in on a section and scrub both directions with the folded or rolled towel until the towel stops showing dirt - or it's minimal.  If you have spots of tar or stains that won't come out, try a little lacquer thinner on a rag and dab it.  Check to see if the rag is pulling color and if it's not, abort the mission - it's basically permanent.  You can clean the leather with a mild soap or all purpose cleaner or a leather cleaner.  Use a light dilution and a terry cloth towel.  A coarse cotton rag and a light toothbrush will help on really dirty areas and seams.  Then get a good leather conditioner - Lexol or Meguairs is good and rub in a good treatmetn - not too much but make sure you get good coverage.  You can always put more on but you can't take it off very easy.
Hope that helps and thanks for asking.
