Auto body repair & detailing: Restoring paint finish, minor scratches, oxidation

Question
Hello and thank you in advance for your help.

My car's finish looks oxidized (hazy). What is a good way for an amateur to restore as much finish as possible?

The car is red and has a clear coat (93 Cavalier).

Thanks again,
Michael

Answer

All you need to do to remove oxidation is go over the finish with a minor abrasive compound.  I recommend Meguiars #2 Fine-cut cleaner.  It is fairly user-friendly, inexpensive (about $5-$6 per bottle), and will remove oxidation, swirls, minor scratches, and other bonded contaminants.  For detailed instructions on how to go about using this and other compounds, read my "Ultimate Guide to Show Prep and Detailing" article Here:

Hope this helps!
