Auto Glass: Car Window Dimensions, GLASS SIZES

Question
QUESTION: Do you by chance know the range of dimensions car windows have? Rear and side windows in particular? I wanted to print some window clings, some of which will take the entire width of the window, but I don't know if there are any standards for size.

ANSWER:
  Hi James,

All windows are different in shape and size and there is no average glass sizes
between all the years and makes of all vehicles ever made as a whole, BUT!!!!!!!

While the width of the average SUV back glass is around 50-55 inches
The height is from 17-23 inches, this average will only work for back glasses on Suv's and not the Side or Qtr windows witch varies too greatly to average because of the different styles.

Thankfully there is a publication that has the Block sizes for each specific window ever made according to Year, Make , Model.   So if you said Derek, I need the Block size for a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee  I would go to my ( National Auto Glass Specifications ) or Nags for short, catalog and look it up.  It would give Block size 19.5 X 52.2 (the height and width of the window).

Now that is not to say that widows on certain Makes or Models will not be the same for several model years for instance, a Ford Econoline Van carries the same rear window block size 21.8 x 25.3 for 8-10 years before a body style change . In fact you could get an average for all Ford Econoline van rear windows ever made and get a number that will work for all Ford vans but you would have to do that for every Make of Van.

I hope you get what i am saying! Nags Catalogs are available on line if you need them. Let me know if you need more help.

         Hope This Helps! Derek =D

QUESTION: I think for rear or side windows I don't need total surface space. Mostly the max. and min. heights and widths so I can do clings that are more landscape or more portrait oriented and still staying in bounds on all vehicles, or perhaps I could sell a large window and small wind version of everything. Do you know what the total ranges are, and maybe how many vehicles fall into different window size groups?

Answer
Hi James,

I better get a % of the sales for working on this! =D
It is safe to say that if you take the smallest pick up back glass at 17" high and 38" wide it would work for all truck rear windows.

The side windows are not so easy to get a min size or average unless you go by Small, Medium. Large and break them down to a manageable universal number but if you walk around with a tape measure at the local shopping center and know what you want as far as look you could come up with a number that works.
