Auto Glass: Highlander drivers window, key cylinder, window switch

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
My 2002 Highlander started intermittently rolling down the drivers window when the door is slammed. It does this even with the windows locked. Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hello Jim,

I haven't seen this problem before, but my first reaction is that the master window switch has a fault in the circuit board.  Slamming the door causes a short that puts power to the down side of the switch.  The lock out button on your switch has no effect on the master window switch; just the individual switches on the other doors.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with this problem.

QUESTION: Ben,
Some additional clues. The window will roll down even after the car has been turned off for 2 minutes when the door is slammed. The window switch is supposed to be deactivated after 43 seconds according to the manual. The manual also says the key will roll down the window when inserted into the door and turned clockwise and held. It also says this can be disabled by the dealer. I suspect this is what triggers the window to go down. Do you know how to disable this feature?

Answer
Hi Jim,

I did a quick search on-line and found a few threads to people with similar problems.  Some say the problem was the master window switch.  Others say the problem was a faulty connection on the back of the key cylinder (inside the door).  If you can find a local shop that does a good deal of automobile electrical work you can probably avoid having to go to the dealer.

Good luck with your search.
