Auto Glass: 2010 Nissan Altima - all windows slow, silicone lubricant, nissan altima

Question
I own a 2010 Nissan Altima. All 4 windows roll up slow and get even slower when it is cold out. I feel like it has to be something more than a motor going bad since it seems pretty unlikely that all four would go bad at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Issac,

Nissan has some of the more reliable window motors and regulators so I am somewhat surprised by the situation you describe.  The window regulators and motors in your Altima have been used by Nissan since 2008.  If there was some kind of chronic problem I would certainly know about it by now.

I suggest you try lubricating the glass run channels (rubber gaskets) at the front and back edge of each window.  Roll the windows down completely, then spray the run channels from top to bottom with silicone lubricant.  Use enough silicone so that it runs down the channel below the top of the door panel. CAUTION!!  DO NOT USE ANY OTHER TYPE OF LUBRICANT.  You can purchase the "Liquid Wrench" brand of silicone at most hardware and home stores.  As soon as you have lubricated the run channels, roll the windows up and down once or twice and repeat the process.

I hope this helps.  If not, feel free to send me a follow up report.
