Auto Glass: 1999 Tahoe - no windows work, chevy tahoe, auto parts stores

Question
I have a 1999 chevy tahoe and all the windows just stopped working at once. none of the windows work from any of the switches,I have replaced all the fuses and the circuit breakers and still no luck. What else would cause this to happen. Everything else works fine.

Answer
Hi Mary,

I can think of two possible causes for the situation you describe.

One would be a broken wire between the driver door and the body of your Tahoe.  If you look in the area near the door hinges you will see a rubber boot that protects a bundle of wires that connect to your windows, locks, seat, and mirror switches.  After opening and closing thousands of times, some of those wires can break and cause the "no window" problem.

The other possibility is a faulty "body control module".  This is a "black box" that most vehicles now use to control and communicate the status of various vehicle components.  I don't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle handy at the moment so I am not  100 % sure your Tahoe has one, but it probably does.

In either case, I think you need the help of someone with a good deal of electrical trouble-shooting skill to solve your problem.  If your regular mechanic doesn't do a lot of this type of work he can probably refer your to someone who does.  If you don't have a good relationship with a mechanic ask a couple of local auto parts stores who they would recommend for auto electrical work in your area.
