Auto Glass: Faulty Toyota Camry electric window (drivers side), Camry Power windows

Question
Dear Derek,
I have a 2002 Toyota Camry (6 cyl - XLE)whose driver's side window worked perfectly until recently when the spot welds on the regulator broke and I had to have them re welded.  My husband put the window back together and it worked perfectly except for one thing, every time you hit the button to roll up the window, once it hits the top, it reverses and rolls back down to the open position.  We purchased a new regulator, but the same thing happened.  The window moves freely and there is no evidence of any problems other than what I have mentioned.  Please help as I don't want to spend a fortune replacing other expensive parts for a problem that hopefully is a cheap quick fix.

Answer
Hi Lisa,

This is a common problem with these automatic window circuits. The problem lies with finding out what and where the circuit is being tripped on the Automatic Up/Down!

The following was taken from How Things Work!

The automatic-down feature is fairly common on cars with power windows. You tap and release the down switch and the window goes all the way down. This feature uses a circuit that monitors the amount of time you hold the switch down. If the switch is down for less than about half a second, the window will go all the way down until it hits the limit switch. If you hold the switch down for longer than that, the window will stop when you release the button. Automatic-up windows are less common. The problem with automatic-up windows is that if anything gets in the way of the window, such as a child, the window has to stop moving before it hurts the child. One way that car makers control the force on the window is by designing a circuit that monitors the motor speed. If the speed slows, the circuit reverses the power to the motor so the window goes back down. Thank you How Things Work!

NOW..

This could happen if the window is set too high in the door also, even barely hitting the top of the door glass seal before the circuit says that it is done closing window completely.

The first thing I would try is to reset the whole car! Remove the positive terminal for 10 mins then replace it and start car and see if that works if not then call the dealer and ask them to tell you where the reset for the auto window circuit is located. On the 1988 Camry it was located next to the fuse panel and had a push button reset.

That is all I can guess if all other components are correct but the possibility of a faulty motor is still there if it was aftermarket or used.

Oh one more thing you can check, START car and time other front windows speed up and down if it is considerably slower you could have a lemon of a motor or regulator or both

Let Me Know How you make out!
         Hope This Helps! Derek =D
