Auto Glass: windows are inoperative, sterling heights michigan, door switches

Question
My power windows have all stopped working. I went to my owners manual to find the 30 amp relay/fuse and cant find it. I pulled the coin box out along with the little frame it sits in. I see the fuse box but no relays around it like the book says. The interesting thing is that the moonroof still works which makes me think that maybe it's not a relay after all. I just tried to use the other door switches and they dont work either. Someone told me this could be a wiring problem then, could that be right? If it is where do I go from there? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Mark,

I suspect that the wire that brings power into the master window switch is broken. If you look in the area between the hinges of the driver door you will see a rubber "boot."  All the wires for the power windows and locks and seats go through that "boot."  On certain vehicles, it is not uncommon for one or more of those wires to break after years of flexing due to the thousands of openings and closings of the door.

Making this type of repair is not simple due to the limited access to the broken wire.  If your regular mechanic is not experienced with this type of repair, I suggest you find someone in your community that does a lot of automotive electrical work to handle the problem.
