Auto Glass: 1996 Crown Victoria Rear Window, ford crown victoria, power window regulator

Question
Hello-I am in the process of replacing the right rear power window regulator on a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria. The panel is off, the rivets are drilled out, the whole assembly is loose and ready to come out. It appears that the window has to comeout(like it did on the front one I replace two weeks ago). What is the trick of getting this window out. Once it is out I will be home free. Thank you-David

Answer
Hi David,

This process is a little difficult to describe, but if you have gotten this far I think you got enough mechanical savvy to figure out what I am talking about.

You need to get the glass in front of the rubber gasket (run channel) that it normally slides up and down in.  To do this, lower the glass all the way down.  Remove the two bolts near the bottom front and bottom back of the door that secure the lower portion of the run channel supports.  With the run channel supports loose you should be able to get the glass out of the run channels so the glass can slide up through the slot between the top edge of the door and run channel gasket.  If you haven't already taken the two white plastic "insulators" out of the holes in bottom of the glass you should.  It makes it easier to get the glass out and back in.  Just be sure to re-install the insulators before you re-rivet the glass to the regulator.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
