Auto Glass: 1999 Tahoe Passenger Front Window, chevy tahoe, straight side

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe 4 door. Our passenger side power window will not roll up all the way. It goes up 1/2 way and seems to get off the track. We have tried to physically move it, but it does not work. It will roll back down all the way. When rolling up there is a gap between the straight side of the window and the door frame as it goes up. There is NO moving this as it rolls up, to keep it on track... it simply stops. Please help!

ANSWER: Hi Shauna,

I don't have a lot of time to answer your question this morning, so I will make this very brief.  There is a channel inside the door that the front edge of the glass slides in when it goes down inside the door.  The bracket that holds this channel to the door can break.  This allows the edge of the glass to slip out of the channel and bind when you try to raise it.

Let me know what other kind of information you need and I will try to get back to you later today.

QUESTION: Thank yu for the information. Is this something we have to take into a shop to get fixed? Do you know if it is very expensive? Thanks

Answer
Hello Again Shauna,

I recently replaced the same channel on a similar vehicle.  The part was about $30 from GM.  It is about a one hour job for someone who has experience making the repair.  You should definitely take it to a glass shop or mechanic who does a good deal of power window work.
