Auto Glass: 98 Ford Expedition E.B. Drivers Side Power Window, fuse panel, 1998 ford expedition eddie bauer

Question
Hello Ben, I have a 1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with a 5.4L. My problem is that the driver's side power window will not operate at all unless the door is open. When open it goes up and down normally. When the door is closed, I hear "clicks" by the fuse panel when I hit the switch but the window doesn't move. I'm guessing it's a connection between the motor and the fuse panel but I don't know where to start. A wiring diagram would help, lol. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Jim,

I suspect a wiring problem between the driver door and the body of the vehicle. If you look in the area between the door hinges you will find a black "boot" that protects the wires.  More than likely one or more of the power window wires has a crack in the insulation.  When the door is closed the wire bends and separates so it can't carry any power.  When the door is open, the wire straightens and is able to carry enough power to operate your window.

I don't make this type of repair (I refer customers to a wiring/electronics specialist) so I don't have much in the way of advice for you.  And I can't offer you a wiring diagram either.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
