How do I re-install the window motor that fell off and was laying in the bottom of door, and what is the position of the motor supposed to be in?

Hi Tony,

First, let me tell you that I am assuming that your 1992 GMC van is a conversion van of some sort that is built on the standard "G15" or "G25" GMC Van.  If I am wrong about that, send me a follow up question with more information.

This motor does not normally "fall off."  I suspect some one replaced the motor before and did not properly secure the motor mounting plate to the motor.  I suggest you go to "www.dormanproducts.com" and type in the part number "742-150" on the bottom search line.  This will bring up a picture of the motor and the mounting plate.  Click on the picture to enlarge it.

Replacing this motor is a difficult job for someone without significant experience working on power windows.  The procedures are far too complex to explain in an email.  I am sorry I can't be more helpful, but this is a job that you will need an experienced repair person to do properly.
