Auto Glass: sport trac drivers window, switch button, window button

Question
I have the same problem with my drivers window, it would go down but you would have to push hard on the button to make it go up. Now it wont even go up and I am getting a noise from the dash when I try to put it up. Can you help me?

Answer
Hello Collette,

It sounds as though you are referring to an earlier question posted by some one else.  I don't know what question you looked at so I can't be very specific.  However, I can tell you a couple things that may be helpful.

Typically window switches don't fail completely, so most of the buttons work up and down for most of the windows.  Often times one button will lower the window, but will not raise it back up.  Having to "push hard on the button" is a typical switch symptom before that single switch button fails completely.

I am not ready to tell you that you have a bad switch.  The "noise from under the dash" you mention is probably the power window relay.  You should hear the relay "click" every time you press a window switch button that is working properly.  If you hear this "click" when you press your driver window button to raise the window, but the window does not go up, your problem may not be the switch.

Unfortunately, there is no way to accurately diagnose your problem without the proper knowledge and tools so you will need to get some technical help.  The good news is that the window switches on your Sport Trac are easily accessed and an experienced mechanic should be able to determine the cause of the problem in about 15 minutes.

Feel free to send a follow up question if I can help in any other way.
