Auto Glass: power window wont open/close, safe bet, window button

Question
My power window on a '93 Ford Explorer won't open/close.
When I hit the switch, it clicks, but the window doesn't move up or down. If I hit the switch and help by pushing on the window, the motor assists and the window opens/closes.
Is it possible my motor has gone bad, but not yet dead?
Or is it possible my regulator is sticking?
Or perhaps, is the connection from the motor to the regulator broken?
Just wondering if I have to dismantle the whole thing, or if there is a simple way to check to see why the motor doesn't move the window.
Thanks for any tip on this subject.

Answer
Hi Dave,

Based on the information you have given me so far I would say it is a safe bet that you have a
failing window motor.

If you want to confirm that the motor is at fault, you will have to remove the door panel.  That will allow you to get to the wires at the back of the switch and the wires that connect to the motor. First check to see that you have power coming out of the two wires for the driver's window button and then check the wires leading into the motor.

If you decide to replace the motor yourself, there is no need to take the entire window regulator out of the door.  However, you may have to drill one or two holes in the sheet metal just below and left of the speaker to uncover the three 5/16" brass colored bolts that hold the motor to the regulator.
