Auto Glass: 2001 Monte Carlo Driver Side Window, electrical trouble, auto parts store

Question
Hi, my husband and i just bought a 2001 Monte Carlo used on Tuesday. Which my husband forgot that the guy we bought it from said that the driver side window motor is going out and rolled the window down. Now It's not rolling up at all. We are not right now looking for it to be replaced. I was wondering if you guys have any tips on how to get the window up. We already took the panel out and tried to push it up but something keeping it locked down. Is there a trick to get it up. We need the window up as right now it's raining and suppose to rain for the rest of the week and we have plastic on the window.

Please help us...

Answer
Hi Kendra,

I am sorry to report that the only way to get the window up is to fix the problem.

From what you have told me so far, I suspect you have either a bad window switch or a bad window motor.  The most common problem is a faulty window switch.  You will need a 12 volt test light or electrical meter and some basic electrical trouble-shooting skills to determine if the switch or the motor is at fault.  If you don't already possess the tools or the skills necessary to check the switch and motor, you will have to get professional assistance.

The good news is that the switch and motor are available at a more reasonable price than from G.M.  I recommend that you find an auto parts store that carries the "Dorman" brand.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
