Auto Glass: 2000 Dakota, dorman products, window regulator

Question
The driver side window will stop and freeze on my 2000 Dakota.  It freezes near the bottom and then will go neither direction.  The passenger side remains operational.  After a short time the window will operate again.  I am assuming this is a problem with the auto down switch.  Am I correct and will replacing the switch correct the problem.

Answer
Hi Larry,

I don't think your switch is the problem.  I suspect the window motor is beginning to fail.  The circumstance you describe is the result of a motor overload.  After a few minutes the overload resets and the motor works until it overloads again.

In the case of your Dakota, the window motor and window regulator are sold as an assembly.  You can purchase a replacement from Dodge or you might want to consider a good quality after-market part at a more reasonable price.  I recommend one made by Dorman Products.  Their part number is 741-649.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
