Auto Glass: Front and rear passenger power windows, side switch, model ford

Question
QUESTION: My power windows work from the driver's side switch but I can work the windows from the front and rear passenger switches.  They all went kaput at once!  I have checked the 'lock-out' feature on the driver's side switch and it is not in the 'lock-out' phase.  What does anyone think?

ANSWER: Hi Jim,

I am guessing that the "lock out" portion of your master switch has failed or that the input power wire from the master switch to the single switches is broken.  I could give you more specific information if I knew the make, model and year of your vehicle.

QUESTION: It is a 2005 Ford Expedition, XLT.  Its a great vehicle otherwise!!!

Answer
Hi Jim,

Thanks for your follow up information.

The failure rate on recent model Ford Explorer and Expedition power window switches is higher than average, so I think my initial reaction is probably accurate.  However, electrical parts cannot be returned so, you need to confirm the diagnosis before purchasing a new switch.  The switch is very easy to access, so diagnosis of the problem shouldn't take more than five or ten minutes by an experienced technician with access to the proper wiring diagram.  The retail price of the switch is in the ball park of $80.00.

Hope this information is helpful.  Feel free to send another follow up if you have additional questions.
