Auto Glass: Leak, FORD FREESTYLE LEAK

Question
Hi Derek, I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle.  The rear carpet below the fixed rear window just behind the 3rd seat is constantly wet.  It was so bad I had to replace the rear tire cover.  I have tried hitting the area with a hose but can't see where the leak is.  I had it to the Ford dealer and they said it was coming from a crimped hose in the sunroof area. Thank you.

Answer
Jeanette,

If you live on Long Island, NY  We could look at it for you if you call us!

It seems to be almost a pending recall at this point but if you Google: FORD FREESTYLE LEAK , Here is just a fraction of what you will find!

I have a 2005 Freestyle Limited. It also leaks water into the rear cargo area through the rear interior side panels.

I started smelling something like a dead animal, that got so bad I could not stand it. I started investigating the source of the smell and when I lifted the spare tire cover I was almost knocked to the ground from the smell. The back side of the cover was completely covered in mold. No wonder I had been getting head aches for some time!
I took it in to the dealer the first time about a month ago. They only have a "Water Leak" Guy in once a week.

They said they fixed it and disinfected the areas other than the spare tire cover, which was beyond repair. The smell never went away, and I could hardly stand to drive it.

I just took it back in today. It still leaks in through the exact same areas. I told them to keep it until they get it right this time. I paid $30,000 on A-Plan for this vehicle. It makes me sick to drive it.

Another Freestyle Leak - There Must be a problem with the FRAMES !!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leaks water from wet weather into vehicle's cargo area AND front passenger floor area. Freezing to sub-freezing temps cause water to freeze carpet and anything in car with moisture on it. First time this was apparent, car was in for recall on door latches; at that time, we told dealer about water leak in cargo area after it has just rained - they said they could not find the leak, and therefore never filed with Ford. Second time car was in was at the end of December '06 for a water leak on front passenger floor. Dealer said they spent more than an hour water testing until it did leak in their presence. Said they removed areas of carpet and doors where water was coming in, fixed seal, and dried out carpet before re-installing and giving car back to us (keep in mind this is roughly 11-12 total hours of labor). A month later, we are in the same position after a light snow (1-2"). This time, however, the front passenger floor and rear cargo area are soaking wet. Dealer has had car for almost a full week. Ordered new carpet for front and rear, replaced any panels and elecricals associated with where water was coming in, said they have made fixes to seals where water is now coming in *another 12-14 hours). Still waiting for vehicle to be returned. Dealer says that, although we have the highest end warranty you can buy through them at 7 years/75,000 miles, this problem will more than likely not be covered beyond the 3yr/36,000 mile manufacturer's warranty. We are talking roughly 25 hours of labor at almost $100/hr. I cannot afford $2,500/month. What is Ford going to do about this? I CANNOT BELIEVE there are zero Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or complaints posted on the NHTSA site. I am almost inclined to believe there is some kind of Conspiracy going on here.

Mine is a 2005 Ford Freestyle SEL with a Moonroof. I purchased it in September of '05. I'm in Texas, so for the first year we didn't have any problems because it NEVER rained. Starting the beginning of 07 I began to bring it into the shop because the rear cargo are was leaking.

At first, we noticed water travelling down the seatbelts. The first three visits, they couldn't reproduce the problem. The subsequent 5 trips (to a new dealership) involved replacing seals, panels, headliners, spare tire covers, and carpet, each time the problem got worse. Water began to seep out of every panel in the rear of the car. My rear seats got soaked as well. They found out that it was the drain hose on the sunroof (trip 4 or 5). It travels towards the back of the car UPHILL apparently. They talked about fabricating parts which scares me. It is in the shop as we speak. We spoke with Ford and they were not helpful. I have retained a lawyer and will file a lawsuit. I will wait for a day in court if necessary, but I believe Ford will remedy the situation one way or another.

If it was my Truck I would print out a couple of these pages and bring them to the Dealer and tell them you want them to fix this potential Nightmare NOW!

HOPE THIS HELPS! Derek :)
