Auto Glass: Side Window Leak, WINDOW, GLASS

Question
Hi Derek, I own a 2002 Ford F150 SCab. I noticed water from the rear side door windows about 2 weeks ago. I pulled apart today. The small window opens outward only. Today I found water leaking between the door body and the window frame. The bolts that hold the frame in place are tight. The glass and soft seal were dry. My question how do I fix? I have heard about 3M 5200. What do you suggest to stop water from leaking into my truck?

Thanks for your time,
John

Answer
Hi John,
I am giving you the quick version of this fix!!

NO GLUE OF ANY KIND IS TO BE USED ON THIS APPLICATION!!

If you have checked all hinge bolts, and there is no split or spaces in the rubber gasket.  I will have to say that the only way both rear cab windows could be leaking at the same time is either the truck was in an accident and both windows were replaced before,  or the truck is used offroad a lot and you shook the seal loose or the truck was built on a Friday LOL :)

To fix correctly you must take out all 9mm nuts out and remove whole frame from truck.

Clean frame and pinchweld.  then prime both, use a roll of 1/4 inch butyl tape available at any good glass shop for around 8-12.00 ( It looks like a big roll of licorice ) LOL  and roll it onto the pinchweld (starting at the bottom), form the gasket by rolling tape outside the bolt holes using the paper of the roll to press it firmly down. (Do not touch butyl. and join ends together and cut remainder of roll off.

Align threaded bolts to holes and press into truck.

Hand tighten nuts at first. and then use a cross pattern to tighten a little at a time as you go around 3-4 times, do not over tighten!!!. Leak test immediately and your done.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!  DEREK :)
