Auto Glass: power window stopped working, mazda tribute, toria

Question
QUESTION: My driver side front window stopped working without any warning. I can hear the motor, so I dont think that is the problem. When driving the window will fall. I can move the window up and down by hand. The window is still attached to the lever which is attached to the track. The clips that attach to the track that run up and down are attached as well. I did however noticed a cable when the window is down and it seems to tighten up when I pull the glass up. Any idea what the problem is?

ANSWER: Toria,

In order to give you an exact answer I need to know the make, model, and year of your vehicle.  However, it is safe to say that the cable that pulls the window up is broken.  Unfortunately there is no way to repair the regulator, it must be replaced.

I will be happy to give you a more thorough answer when you get back to me with make, model, and year.

QUESTION: Ooppss, 2001 Mazda Tribute

Answer
Hello Again Toria,

The mechanism that moves your window up and down is called a "regulator."  In the case of your Tribute, it is a "cable style regulator."  That means that you have one cable that pulls the window up and one cable that pulls the window down.  Both cables are attached to a spool that is turned by the window motor.

From the information you provided, I am confident that the cable that pulls your window up has broken.  As I stated before, this is not a repairable item.  The regulator must be replaced.  I do not believe there is an after-market version of this part available so you will have to go to Mazda for the part.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
