Auto Glass: 1994 Pontiac Sunbird Convt., 1994 pontiac sunbird, pontiac sunbird

Question
Just purchased and passenger elec. window motor burnt out. Replaced, and 1 week later drivers side window started going up part way and then I have to play with it, and now rear windows are sluggish and somtimes won't go up all the way. Suspect this was an ongoing problem. Binding problem or ???

Answer
Hello Howard,

Given the age of the vehicle it is highly likely that the window motors are near the end of their useful life.

It is very typical for a motor this age to lower the window reasonably well, but have trouble raising it.  The motor doesn't have much work to do lowering the window.  Raising the window it is doing a lot more work and overloads.  If you wait a while, the overload resets and the window goes up a little more.  Or if you pull on the glass the motor isn't doing a much work and doesn't trip the overload.

Sorry I can't give you better news.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
