Auto Glass: replace door glass mechanism, Packing tape, Gluing window Channel

Question
QUESTION: I am about to replace the door grille on my european seat ibiza car as the old one is about to collapse. have all the parts but am not sure how to keep the glass in the new mechanism's "channel". the glass was kept in the old U shaped "channel" by means of elastic band (perhaps glue am not sure)but not anymore. while lowering window it goes out and then falls!!! after I replace mechanism, do I need to use rubber band again and some sort of glue or ....? any idea would be urgently needed and most appreciated. best regards. haris

Answer
Hi Haris

Sorry for the late reply! I have never heard of one of these cars and after looking it up on Google I see the reason, They are French Made cars and not many are found in the USA but I will give you my best guess If the "Rubber Band" stuff your talking about looks like fabric or thick tape the glass was probably ( PACKED ) into the Channel. A prosess were by the thick tape or Packing is laid on the edge of the glass and the channel is forced on by rubber mallet
.
This prosses done right eliminates the wait time required to use window by the gluing prosses. If you think you can find a Shop who has this Packing tape then I would see if there is an Old Timer like me who would do it for you. If all else fails you can always glue it with 500+ Urethane adhesive by 3M or the equivalent and wait to use the window until dry. Hope this Helps! Stay Safe! Derek :)
