Questionokay i bumped my mirror off the mount and im trying to figure out if i can take the mirror housing off without breaking anything...
i already took out the screws for the mount but im afraid if i take the whole thing out and put the mirror back in the mount that im not going to be able to put the mount back on my car because i dont have enough room... i pulled the front of it out and it does have clips or things that hold it in but it feels like if i pull the back out it will break

I understand your mirror lost the connection base (attachment to door) and glass mirror housing, therefore, the retractil function is not working or the housing in hanging from the wires if it is electric.
Normally, the back cover is fastened to the housing by four snap fits. To repair this mirror, I think you do not neet to remove this cover. All you need to do is to take off the glass mirror and plastic base. This is done by pulling it out. this base is fastened for at least 6-8 smaller snap fits arranged in circular pattern.
Now you can see whether the connector bracket is made of plastic or metal. In the second case I can not help you.
